12 Bible Verses for a Birthday

A birthday is a marker — another year God gave. These verses are the kind you write in a card, pray over your kid, or pull up on your own birthday morning to remember who you belong to and what He's still doing in your life.

   Psalm 139:13–14

   "For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well."

   The birthday verse. You didn't just happen — He knit you together on purpose.

   Numbers 6:24–26

   "The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace."

   The blessing every priest spoke over Israel. Speak it over the birthday person.

   Psalm 90:12

   "So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom."

   Birthdays are for counting. Not with dread — with wisdom. Days are gifts; spend them well.

   Jeremiah 29:11

   "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."

   Spoken to exiles told to settle in Babylon for seventy years — proof that God's mind toward His covenant people is shalom even inside long, hard seasons. A fitting word for the year ahead.

   Psalm 91:11

   "For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways."

   Birthday prayer for kids and grown-ups: angels assigned, guarding the road ahead.

   Lamentations 3:22–23

   "The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."

   A year is 365 fresh mornings of mercy. You've already received them all and there's more coming.

   Psalm 16:11

   "You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore."

   Joy isn't an event. It's a Person. He is the gift on every birthday.

   Psalm 118:24

   "This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it."

   The simplest birthday verse. This day was made. Be glad in it.

   3 John 1:2

   "Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul."

   John's personal greeting to a friend — a kind wish that his health and circumstances would keep pace with his thriving soul. A fitting prayer to echo over someone you love on their day.

    Philippians 1:6

    "And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ."

    Another year, and God is still working on you. He's not finished. That's worth celebrating.

    Psalm 23:6

    "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever."

    Goodness and mercy chasing you down for every day God gives. That's a birthday promise.

    Ephesians 3:20

    "Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us."

    Paul's doxology — the power that works in you is the same power that fills you with the love of Christ. The year ahead is held by a God whose generosity outruns what you'd think to ask.
