12 Bible Verses for Father's Day

Father's Day is for honoring the men who took the calling seriously — and grace for the ones still growing into it. These verses speak to dads in every season: new dads, dads of teens, dads of adult kids, granddads, spiritual fathers, and anyone who's been fathered well by another man.

  1. 1.

    Proverbs 22:6

"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it."

The fatherhood mandate in one sentence. Train, then trust.

  2. 2.

    Ephesians 6:4

"Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord."

Fatherhood has both sides — discipline AND instruction. Not one without the other.

  3. 3.

    Psalm 103:13

"As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him."

God uses fatherhood to describe His own heart. That's how high the calling sits.

  4. 4.

    Proverbs 20:7

"The righteous who walks in his integrity—blessed are his children after him!"

The greatest gift a father gives is a life his kids can imitate.

  5. 5.

    Exodus 20:12

"Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you."

    Honoring dad isn't a feeling — it's a commandment with a promise.

  6. 6.

    Proverbs 17:6

"Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers."

Grandkids are an old man's crown. Dad is a kid's glory. Both directions, the gift is generational.

  7. 7.

    Joshua 24:15

"And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

Joshua's vow as a husband and father. A dad's first responsibility is to lead his house toward God.

  8. 8.

    1 Corinthians 16:13

"Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong."

Paul's four-word picture of biblical manhood. A good template for any dad.

  9. 9.

    Psalm 127:3

"Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward."

Children are God's gift to a father. Receive them as reward, not interruption.

  10. 10.

    Deuteronomy 6:6–7

"And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise."

Fatherhood is conversation. About Him. All day. In the small moments more than the formal ones.

  11. 11.

    Hebrews 12:7

"It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?"

A real father disciplines — because love that doesn't correct isn't love. God models it; dads imitate it.

  12. 12.

    Malachi 4:6

"And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction."

God's promise over fatherhood. Hearts turned both directions. Pray it over your dad — and over yourself.
