15 Bible Verses for Loneliness
Loneliness is one of the quieter griefs — a room that feels too still, a phone that doesn't ring, a season where the people who used to be there aren't anymore. Scripture meets that ache with a steady promise: God Himself is near, He sees, He calls you by name, and He doesn't leave. The verses below are some of the Bible's clearest words for a lonely heart. Read slowly. Pick one. Let His nearness be the company you didn't know was already in the room.
- 1.
Deuteronomy 31:6
"Be strong and courageous. Don't be afraid or scared of them; for Yahweh your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you."
Two never-promises are quietly underneath every lonely night: He won't fail you, He won't forsake you.
- 2.
Hebrews 13:5
"Be free from the love of money, content with such things as you have, for he has said, "I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you.""
The Greek piles up the negatives. Translated woodenly: "I will never, no never, no never leave you." He's emphatic for a reason.
- 3.
Psalm 139:7–10
"Where could I go from your Spirit? Or where could I flee from your presence? … If I take the wings of the dawn, and settle in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand will lead me, and your right hand will hold me."
There is no "where" without Him. Loneliness is real, but never absolute.
- 4.
Matthew 28:20
"Behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Not most days. Not most hours. Always. The last words Jesus spoke were a presence-promise.
- 5.
Psalm 68:6
"God sets the lonely in families. He brings out the prisoners with singing."
He notices the alone. He's also in the business of giving them people.
- 6.
Isaiah 41:10
"Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. I will help you. I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness."
Loneliness whispers "you're alone." This verse answers every word of the lie.
- 7.
Psalm 34:18
"Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit."
Brokenness doesn't push Him away. It draws Him close.
- 8.
John 14:18
"I will not leave you orphans. I will come to you."
Jesus chose the word "orphans" carefully. He knew the kind of aloneness He was answering.
- 9.
Psalm 27:10
"When my father and my mother forsake me, then Yahweh will take me up."
Even when the closest people fail, He picks up. There is no abandonment He can't catch.
- 10.
Genesis 16:13
"She called the name of Yahweh who spoke to her, "You are a God who sees," for she said, "Have I even stayed alive after seeing him?""
Hagar was alone in a wilderness, pregnant, cast out — and she discovered He saw her. Loneliness often shrinks the moment you realize you're seen.
- 11.
Romans 8:38–39
"Nothing … will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Read the whole list Paul writes. Not one item on it can pry you loose from His love.
- 12.
Psalm 23:4
"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me."
David doesn't say the valley empties out. He says he isn't alone in it.
- 13.
Isaiah 43:1–2
"Don't be afraid, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name. You are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you."
He calls you by name. There is no anonymous lonely person in His sight.
- 14.
Psalm 25:16
"Turn to me, and have mercy on me, for I am desolate and afflicted."
When you can't find the words, David already wrote them. Pray this one out loud.
- 15.
Zephaniah 3:17
"Yahweh, your God, is among you, a mighty one who will save. He will rejoice over you with joy. He will calm you in his love. He will rejoice over you with singing."
He's not just present. He's delighting. Read that again — He sings over you.
